Pneumatic Slurry Pump KPD 250
The KPD 250 is a 60 kg pneumatic double diaphragm slurry pump built by Vikay Mining Equipments in India, and the higher capacity of the two models. It runs on 90 to 100 cfm at 6 to 7 kg/cm2 with a head delivery of 40 to 70 metres, for dewatering shaft sinking, drives, declines, ramps, tunnels and dams. Diaphragm pumping handles solids that would damage an impeller. It is a direct alternative to the Chicago Pneumatic CP 0077 sludge pump.

Can the KPD 250 replace a CP 0077?
It does the same job. The KPD 250 is manufactured by Vikay in India and serves the same purpose as the Chicago Pneumatic CP 0077, but the two are not interchangeable: parts and fittings do not cross between them, so it replaces the pump rather than slotting into it.
Should I take the KPD 170 or the KPD 250?
This page is the KPD 250, the higher capacity model at 60 kg. The KPD 170 weighs 25 kg and runs on 70 to 80 cfm, which makes it the one to carry down a ladderway. The KPD 250 weighs 60 kg, runs on 90 to 100 cfm and moves more water. Both are double diaphragm pumps with a head delivery of 40 to 70 metres.

Will my compressor run the KPD 250?
The KPD 250 needs 90 to 100 cfm at 6 to 7 kg/cm2, delivered continuously. Size the compressor against that figure rather than against a peak.
Why a diaphragm pump rather than a centrifugal one?
The KPD 250 moves more water than the KPD 170 but works the same way, on two diaphragms. The water coming out of a shaft or a decline carries grit, sand and rock flour, and that is what wears an impeller away. A double diaphragm pump has no impeller in the flow path, will run dry without damage and will pass solids that would jam a centrifugal pump. It also stalls harmlessly against a closed discharge instead of overheating.
