Light Weight Rock Drill – VK 12D ( 22 lb )

The VK 12D is a 9.8 kg hand held pneumatic rock drill, technically equivalent to the Atlas Copco BBD 12D sinker. Fitted with a D type handle, it is built for horizontal drilling, plug hole drilling and drilling in concrete to about one metre. It delivers 2,580 blows per minute on 24 l/s of air through a 22 x 108 mm shank. Built in air flushing clears the hole for faster blasting cycles, a kick latch retainer changes steels without tools, and spring dampened handles cut vibration to the operator.

Can the VK 12D replace a BBD 12D?

Yes, that is the duty it is made for: the VK 12D is technically equivalent to the Atlas Copco BBD 12D. A 45 mm piston on a 41 mm stroke gives 2,580 blows a minute at 9.8 kg on 24 l/s of air at 6 bar. It takes the same 22 x 108 mm shank, so drill steel already on site will fit.

Will Vikay parts fit my BBD 12D?

Yes. Vikay manufactures the VK 12D, which is technically equivalent to the Atlas Copco BBD 12D, and the replacement parts alongside it. The same parts serve both, so an existing machine in the field can be maintained on them. Which Vikay rock drill do I need?

This page is the VK 12D at 9.8 kg, the lightest in the range. Four are manufactured and the hole decides between them. The VK 12D and VK 12T are the light sinkers at 9.8 and 11.1 kg, D handle for horizontal and plug hole work, T handle for vertical holes to about 3 metres. The VK 65 at 25 kg is the bench and secondary drilling machine, and the VK S215 is the pusherleg drill for blast holes in narrow vein stoping.

Will my compressor run the VK 12D?

The VK 12D needs 24 l/s at 6 bar (51 cfm at 87 psi), delivered continuously. The inlet is 19 mm, so run at least that hose bore: anything narrower throttles the machine before the compressor does. At 2,580 blows a minute the draw is constant rather than intermittent, so allow headroom for hose length and for worn couplings.

Will my existing drill steel fit the VK 12D?

The VK 12D takes a 22 x 108 mm shank (7/8 x 4 1/4"), with 19 x 108 mm available as an option, so any drill steel cut to that shank fits, whatever machine it came off. Check the shank on the tools already held before ordering.
