The VK 4608D is a 14.2 kg rivet buster, technically equivalent to the Chicago Pneumatic CP 4608D, and known in the field as the Hell Dog or Boyer Buster. The 203 mm short cylinder stroke delivers 900 blows per minute on 21 l/s of air, with a teasing throttle giving the operator fine control over blow energy. The D handle with inside trigger and open swan neck suit tight spaces, medium to heavy concrete demolition and cutting large rivets, bolts and plate. It replaces the earlier VK 4181.

Can the VK 4608D replace a CP 4608D?

Yes. The VK 4608D is technically equivalent to the Chicago Pneumatic CP 4608D, manufactured by Vikay in India. A 30.2 mm piston on a 203 mm stroke gives 900 blows a minute at 14.2 kg on 21 l/s of air at 6.2 bar.

Which Vikay rivet buster do I need?

This page is the VK 4608D at 14.2 kg. Three sizes are manufactured, each in a D handle and a pistol grip version. The 4608 is the lightest at about 14 kg, the 4611 the middle at about 15 kg, and the 4689 is the riveting hammer, which converts to a rivet buster by fitting a retainer and a chisel. The handle is a separate decision from the size: the D handle for sustained two handed work on rivets and concrete, the pistol grip for tight spaces and overhead.

Will my compressor run the VK 4608D?

The VK 4608D needs 21 l/s at 6.2 bar, delivered continuously. The inlet is 12.7 mm, so run at least that hose bore: anything narrower throttles the machine before the compressor does. At 900 blows a minute the draw is constant rather than intermittent, so size the compressor against that figure rather than against a peak.
