Simba Junior Standard - VKS-STD
The Simba Junior Standard, model VKS-STD, is a ring drilling rig built by Vikay Mining Equipments in India and also known as ring drilling equipment. It drills through a full 360 degree rotation at any angle, covering a 3 metre radius, which makes it the conventional choice for long hole drilling, drifting and tunnelling in small underground mines. It runs on 400 cfm at 7 kg/cm2 and dismantles for moving between faces. Two further versions are built: the Mini for a 2.4 metre radius and the Lateral Movement version for parallel hole drilling.

Which Simba Junior version do I need?
This page is the Standard, covering a 3 metre radius. Three are manufactured. The Standard drills a 3 metre ring radius and is the general purpose choice. The Mini covers 2.4 metres and fits smaller headings. The Lateral Movement version traverses sideways instead of pivoting, so it drills holes parallel to one another, which is what cut holes and box holes need. All three run on 400 cfm at 7 kg/cm2.

Will my compressor run the Simba Junior Standard?
The Simba Junior Standard needs 400 cfm, delivered continuously. Allow headroom for hose length and for worn couplings.
What hole size and depth does the Simba Junior drill?
51 to 64 mm holes to a maximum drilling length of 25 metres, using R32 rods in 1.20 metre lengths through a VK-12 pneumatic drifter. The drilling rate is about 4 minutes per metre.
