Clay Digger – VK 222 CHIT ( 24 lb )
The VK 222 CHIT is an 11 kg clay digger and utility hammer, technically equivalent to the Chicago Pneumatic CP 222 CHIT pick hammer. It delivers 1,500 blows per minute on 19 l/s of air through a 22 x 82.5 mm shank, giving a high power to weight ratio in a slim 533 mm body. Heat treated alloy steel components and a latch retainer suit it to trenching, exhaust and front end work where the tool is in the operator's hands all day.

Can the VK 222 CHIT replace a CP 222?
Yes. Vikay manufactures the VK 222 CHIT in India as the technical equivalent of the Chicago Pneumatic CP 222. A 40 mm piston on a 88 mm stroke gives 1,500 blows a minute at 11 kg on 19 l/s of air at 6.2 bar. It takes the same 22 x 82.5 mm shank, so clay spades, moil points and chisels already on site will fit.
Will Vikay parts fit my CP 222?
Yes. Vikay manufactures the VK 222 CHIT, which is technically equivalent to the Chicago Pneumatic CP 222, and the replacement parts alongside it. The same parts serve both, so an existing machine in the field can be maintained on them. Which Vikay clay digger do I need?
This page is the VK 222 CHIT at 11 kg, in the middle of the range. Two sizes are manufactured, at 10 kg and 11 kg, each in a plain and a silenced version. Both take clay spades and moil points for trenching, laterite and frozen ground, so the choice comes down to how much weight the operator can work with all shift and whether the site has a noise limit. Check the shank against the spades already held before ordering.

Will my compressor run the VK 222 CHIT?
The VK 222 CHIT needs 19 l/s at 6.2 bar (40 cfm at 90 psi), delivered continuously. The inlet is 19 mm, so run at least that hose bore: anything narrower throttles the machine before the compressor does. At 1,500 blows a minute the draw is constant rather than intermittent, so the compressor has to hold the figure under load, not merely reach it.
Will my existing clay spades, moil points and chisels fit the VK 222 CHIT?
The VK 222 CHIT takes a 22 x 82.5 mm shank (7/8" x 3 1/4"), so any clay spade cut to that shank fits, whatever machine it came off. Check the shank on the tools already held before ordering.
