Paving Breaker – VK 1230 ( 64 lb )

The VK 1230 is a 64 lb paving breaker, technically equivalent to the Chicago Pneumatic CP 1230. It sits between the 1210 and the 1240: 1,300 blows per minute, 30 l/s of air and a 140 mm stroke through a 32 x 160 mm shank. That balance suits reinforced concrete, heavy road work, tarmac, frozen ground and non consolidated rock without stepping up to the weight of the 1240.

Can the VK 1230 replace a CP 1230?

Yes. The VK 1230 is Vikay's technical equivalent of the Chicago Pneumatic CP 1230, made in India. A 60.3 mm piston on a 140 mm stroke gives 1,300 blows a minute at 29 kg on 30 l/s of air at 6 bar. It takes the same 32 x 160 mm shank, so moil points, chisels and asphalt cutters already on site will fit.

Will Vikay parts fit my CP 1230?

Yes. Vikay manufactures the VK 1230, which is technically equivalent to the Chicago Pneumatic CP 1230, and the replacement parts alongside it. Which Vikay paving breaker do I need?

This page is the VK 1230 at 29 kg, in the middle of the range. Vikay manufactures breakers from 13.5 kg to 42 kg and the weight is the job: 13.5 kg for light construction and plant maintenance, 20 to 30 kg for general breaking, asphalt and pavement, 36 kg and above for reinforced concrete, frozen ground and thick pavement. The lightest machine that will do the work is usually the right one, because a heavier breaker breaks faster but tires the operator sooner. Silenced versions are manufactured alongside most models where noise is regulated.

Will my compressor run the VK 1230?

The VK 1230 needs 30 l/s at 6 bar (64 cfm at 87 psi), delivered continuously. The inlet is 19 mm, so run at least that hose bore: anything narrower throttles the machine before the compressor does. At 1,300 blows a minute the draw is constant rather than intermittent, so a compressor shared with a second machine has to be sized for both.

Will my existing moil points, chisels and asphalt cutters fit the VK 1230?

The VK 1230 takes a 32 x 160 mm shank (1¼" x 6¼"), with 28 x 160 mm available as an option, so any moil point cut to that shank fits, whatever machine it came off. Check the shank on the tools already held before ordering.
